Dramatic Arts Club Spring 2024 – Nothing Matters
The club features student written, directed, and performed short plays at the end of each school
semester. This year’s theme is “Nothing Matters”, leaning into the ridiculous in a time of the
unknown.
The shows in order are:
Nun of Your Business
“Nun of Your Business focuses on the daily grind of two young women in the city just trying to
make ends meet. What better way to pay rent than peddle in the Lord’s name?”
Wisconsin
“Getting a divorce is hard enough and it doesn’t get better with nosey people from Wisconsin”
Translation
“Being a translator is never easy. Now imagine that you need to be one at the last meeting of
two colleagues, who happen to be in love with each other.”
The Diner
“Two siblings fight over their dead godmothers watch until someone surprising enters the diner”
Intermission
AUR student Anna Wendelin sings an original song on the ukulele.
Everything But the Bride
“Everything but the Bride gives a snapshot of dysfunctional wedding guests determined to use
the big day to fix their own problems”

Tutto nasce da un versetto della Bibbia che, nei tempi addietro, qualcuno amava recitare trascurandone verbalmente l’uso dell’apostrafo. Ecco che l’Autore, e regista, ha pensato di creare questo delicato lavoro teatrale. La storia si svolge in una casa posta in riva al lago dove una coppia realizza la propria storia quotidiana.Un lui che pesca ed una lei che aspetta. Il marito butta il pescato in mare per rispettarne la sopravvivenza e la moglie che fa umilmente di tutto per assecondarlo. Ecco che, a fine cena… al suono di una dolce musica per il meritato riposo, ci si accinge a leggere il giornale “LA CRUNA DEL LAGO, appunto. Ma quella sera di primavera gli articoli e i personaggi interessati prendono vita sul palcoscenico raccontando le loro vicende non solo umane ma sopratutto liberatorie delle proprie anime costrette a soggiornare in anfratti misteriosi ed enigmatici. Gli oggetti creano l’alibi per volare oltre: ci si imbatte in pezzi di vetro, in medagliette, in un cappio artatamente punitivo, in una ballerina da carillon, in scarpette rosse tacco 12 e tanto altro. E i giornali volano in festa o dal vento trasportati. L’atmosfera pian piano diventa fantasticamente reale cercando di far apparire un mondo diverso. Ecco aiutateci a mettere i mattoni giusti al posto giusto, Noi vi aspetteremo….
